Where?
Near Croydon, London.
What makes it sustainable?
The design cuts energy consumption.
Walls are thicker = less heating and cooler in summer
All houses are thermal insulated.
There is a sedum on the roof = a plant which captures rainwater so it can be stored and used.
Grey water is used to flush the toilets.
The funnels (windcows) on the roof capture air and ventillate houses.
All houses face South to capture sunrays.
Buildng materials are renewable and recycled and come from within 35 miles to inimise energy required for transportation.
Zedcars - car sharing, electric cars, close to train station, 2 bus stops and cycle paths.
Solar panels on the roof heats the resident's hot water.
Succeses

Electricity consumption is 45% lower than the Sutton average.
Gas consumption is 85% less.
Car milage is 65% less.
60% of water is recycled or composted
Problems
The Electricity was eant to come from a combined-heat-and-power plant fueled by woodchips making it sustainable but it has never worked.
Their lives outside of their homes impact the environment e.g. travelling to work/school.
