Health and Safety Policy
COVID-19
If you have any of the 3 cardinal symptoms (new persistent cough, fever, and/or loss of taste or smell) you should not attend school. Self-isolate, book a Covid-19 tests and inform the headteacher
-
The main staffroom is available for use by all staff, however there is a timetable in place to ensure that there is enough room in the staffroom to maintain a 2m social distance at all times.
Hand sanitiser stations will be placed at main entrances to the building. Learners and adults must sanitise their hands on re-entering the building after each break time outdoors. Individual hand santiser bottles will be placed in each classroom. This should not to be used instead of handwashing.
All adults must wear a medical mask provided by the school. This should be changed twice a day and disposed of in a closed top bin.
All adults must wear masks when moving around the building and in communal areas. Masks do not have to be worn in the classroom, however, it is advised when working closely with older learners.
-
Practice social distancing between adults at all times. When working with young children social distancing does not need to be maintained, however, it is advisable to wear a face visor or mask when working closely with children for any length on time.
Any children showing symptoms of Covid-19 should be taken to the isolation room (spare classroom opposite Year 3). PPE (masks, visors, aprons and gloves) are to be worn by the adults supervising them. Parents should be contacted immediately to come and collect their child. They must exit the site via the main entrance.
There is no longer the requirement to self-isolate the ‘contact group’ / ‘bubble’. Instead Contact Tracing will be used to identify the close contacts of staff and learners that have tested positive.
Both photocopiers use a one-in-one-out system. Only one person should be in the photocopier room/ space at any one time. If a member of staff needs to contact the headteacher ring or email rather than going to her room.
Cleaners will attend site from 6-8.30am and 3.30-6 p.m. daily. No extra cleaning is now required at lunchtime unless there is a Covid outbreak.
Pupils’ desks can be placed as normal; however, WG guidance states that pupils should still side-by-side rather than facing each other if possible. Think carefully when placing furniture to ensure people can move around the room easily and safely and learners are not directly facing each other too closely.
Teachers must ensure that only one class uses the cloakroom at any one time and windows must be open in those area if present.
Teachers will meet children in their classrooms each morning with TAs in key areas around the school to help children wash their hands and go to their classrooms immediately:
Only children from one class are in the toilet at any one time. If there are children from other classes in there they must wait outside.
Contact groups (bubbles) are no longer required. Instead, there is a stronger focus on contact tracing and so we need to be able to ensure that children mix in consistent group and these groups should not mix where possible.
Frequently used equipment such as pens/ pencils should not be shared. Each child should have their own. If this is not practical in your classroom, limit it to a group of children having their own resources and these must be washed properly at the end of each day.
-
Anyone may remove their face mask covering temporarily to assist a person that is relying on lip reading or seeing facial expressions to communicate. Physical distancing should be maintained in these circumstances.
Fire Safety
-
-
If the fire alarm sounds each class teacher will be responsible for leading their group out of the classrooms/ hall and to the muster point in the playground.
Children should line up as a class and each class should stand two metres apart where at all possible.
Classes must gather: Reception - Year 6 in the main playground, Nursery in the Nursery playground.
Healthcare Policy
Staff will aim to be aware of how a learner’s healthcare needs may impact on participation, and seek to accommodate any reasonable adjustments, which would increase the level of participation by the learner.
Individual risk assessments for all educational visits are completed by the teacher in charge and authorised by a senior member of staff.
The school makes all staff aware of the social-barriers learners with healthcare needs may experience and how this can lead to bullying and social exclusion. A proactive approach is used to remove any barriers.
The school fully understands the importance of all learners taking part in physical activities and staff make appropriate adjustments to sports and other activities to make them accessible to all learners, including after-hours clubs and team sports.
Where food is provided by or through the school, consideration must be given to dietary needs of learners, e.g. those who have diabetes, coeliac disease, allergies and intolerances
The school uses the Evolve System to record all risk assessments, additional information is provided for learners with additional medical/physical needs.
Class registers contain information about specific health needs and the supply-teacher planning form has provision for information about health issues and procedures.
A staffroom noticeboard provides details of safeguarding personnel, registered first aiders and emergency procedures.
A parental request form will be completed each time there is a request for medication to be administered by setting staff, or for a learner to self-administer their own medication. This arrangement must be agreed, documented and dated by the Head teacher. A copy must be kept on file.
Medication will be stored in a locked cupboard away from other children and young people. The key should be kept in an accessible place known to the designated members of staff.
Staff will have access to protective disposable gloves and take care when dealing with spillages of blood or other body fluids and disposing of dressing or equipment.
Staff will know who is responsible for the policy, nominated first aiders and how to deal with common healthcare needs. In situations requiring assistance, 999 will be called immediately. The location of learners’ healthcare records and emergency contact details is known to staff.
If a learner needs to be taken to hospital, a staff member will stay with the learner until a parent arrives. This includes accompanying them in an ambulance to hospital.
ll staff, irrespective of whether they have volunteered to assist or support learners with healthcare needs, may come into contact with learners who have healthcare needs. It is therefore advisable that all staff have a basic understanding of common conditions to ensure recognition of symptoms and understand where to seek appropriate assistance.
