Teaching natural science concepts to young children with mobile and hands-on activities. A case study.
Introduction
In this study-to help early childhood children and teachers to understand the concepts of the gravity and the planets through the combined use of hands-on activities and various form of ICT : : :pen:
McClure et al., 2017; Papadakis and Kalogiannakis, 2017 - There is evidence that well-designed and developmentally appropriate devices, software and other digital resources can have a positive impact to young children's learning provided that they are strategically integrated into meaningful learning activities.
Papadakis, 2018 - A good example is ScratchJr: an introductory programming language - allows young children to create their own interactive stories and games
Lui, 2016,p.88 - need to delve into the complexity of practices and context of technology integration
-
Theoretical frameeork the present study respons to this idea of creating tools and resources - cultural artefacts, that engage children with sophisticated constructions of scientific reasoning for the study of natural phenomena.

Method - qualitative

During summer school in Greece between July and August 2017. The children had no similar educational experience, no similar educational program. The teaching intervention - two weeks of one-hour daily activities
The teacher had previously participated in a seminar. After that, teacher joined the research team.
Procedure
-
Exploring the concept of gravity
Intervention of teaching was enhanced by various forms of ICT. (through interactive projector). :checkered_flag:
-
Children write down some hypotheses in worksheet or diaries and note down their finding. :checkered_flag:
Children were engaged in theatre games that emulated the astronaouts' 'floating' and bounching, jumping in big steps. :checkered_flag:
Providing children with incentives to learn about gravity (see online version for colors)
: :checkered_flag:The exploration of the concept of gravity was prompted by appropriately designed digital scenarios in the form of projects in the programming environment ScratchJr.
Children' s crafts related to the concept of gravity and the planets (see online version for color)
Use multipied materials such as feathers, cubes, paper and balls to experiment further :checkered_flag:
