Assessments
Formative
Exit Slip; students will be asked to complete an exit ticket listing the three branches of government and what their jobs are.
Definition: process of gathering evidence of student learning, providing feedback, and adjusting instruction strategies to enhance achievement. These are not graded and are just to check understanding.
Quiz, Quiz, Trade; students will be asked to complete the activity with their reading partners over the three branches of government and their jobs
Performance
Definition: requires students to actually perform a task in order to be assessed versus just being asked and tested based on questions.
One Minute Sentence; encourages students to write a summary of what they just learned. Demonstrating their understanding of an idea/concept by writing only one sentence to capture the most important elements. This strategy allows students to practice their writing skills and gives teachers a way to check students’ understanding.
Presentation; have students create 5-10 slide presentation presenting and summarizing to the class what they just learned.
Diagnostic
Definition: types of pre-assessments to know the student's understanding by looking at their strengths, weakness, along with any other misconceptions or struggles they may have. This gives the teacher the information needed to provide differentiations needed for all student's success.
3-2-1; students would complete this activity individually by first listing 3 things learned in the lesson, 2 things they found interesting about the lesson, and 1 question or thing they made need clarification over.
Consensogram; help students assess needs, attitudes, or knowledge. A question asked and each student records their thoughts on a chart that everyone can see. Once everyone has placed their mark on the chart, together they can analyze the data.
Summative
Definition: assessments used in order to evaluate the students learning and understanding of information learned at the end of a unit. These are graded
District Assessments; these are given at the end of each unit to check the students understanding over the unit that just ended. The data collected from these tests help teachers know what to do in order to get all students on their way to mastery level.
Essay/Final Project; these gives students a prompt to start with and allowing the students to show what they learned by summarizing all information into one concise closing piece to the unit.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: these assessments are used to make sure that students are on the right track and are where they are supposed to be. This will help the teacher determine how to keep them on track or get them on track if they are not already.
Istation; is a program that tests students progress and growth in reading and writing. This is game based allowing students to choose their character to help lead them.
DreamBox; this program intelligently adapts to each child, letting them drive their own learning while giving parents and teachers in-the-moment data and valuable insights to ensure success
