Assesments
Formative
Definition: The process of gathering evidence of student learning, providing feedback, and adjusting instruction strategies to enhance achievement. These types of assessments are low stakes and have little to no grade value.
Examples: Kahoot- Students will play Kahoot and answer questions about the process of voting and what it means to vote.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition:These types of assessments are used to analyze where students stand in their learning development. These assessments are used to determine if they are on track to being successful with future assessments.
Examples:STAAR- State wide standardized test are given to assess a students level of mastery within their grade level.
Examples: iStation - Computer program that is used to track and test a students progress in reading and writing.
Summative
Definition: These assessments are used to evaluate what a student know at the end of the unit. These assessments are typically high in grade value.
Examples: End term exams- These exams are given at the end of the term and assess all the material a student learned over the period of the term.
Examples: Final Project- Students will create a presentation or model of what they have learned over the period of the 9 weeks.
Perfomance
Definition:These types of assessments are the type that require students to preform a task rather than regular test questions.
Examples: Poem Portfolio- Students will create a portfolio containing different types of poems the students wrote.
Examples: Lab Experiment- Students will conduct a lab experiment where they show different states of matter
Diagnostic
Definition: These types of assessments are used as pre-assessments to determine what a students knows and what they do not know. They also show us what types of misconceptions students may have. With this information teachers can plan for their instruction to meet their students' needs.
Examples: Cut and Paste- Students will cut out various objects then place them to the best of their knowledge what type of energy each object produces.
