Ex 2: Project - Either individual or group project over a given topic in the content unit that was taught.
These assessments are used to see where students stand at the end of a content unit. They have a high grade value, higher than formative.
Diagnostic
Definition
Ex 1: Pre-test - Provides information as to the weaknesses and strengths students have in the content are that is about to be taught.
Ex 2: Initial Writing Prompts - Students will be able to write down their previous knowledge of the content.
This is a pre-assessment taken before a content unit begins in order to determine where students show strengths and weaknesses. It will also have an effect on the instructional methods used by the teacher.
Performance

Ex 2: Research Paper - Students will conduct research and put together a paper researching a topic in the content area that they have learned about.
In this assessment, students have to perform a task rather than taking traditional assessments such as a test.
Formative
Definition
Ex 1: Flashcards - Students will take their vocabulary terms and write the definitions on the back, also including the significance of the term.
Ex 2: Venn Diagram - Students can choose two topics that are being taught in their classes and compare and contrast them in this diagram.
This is a way to assess where students stand when it comes to their knowledge and understanding of the content. Based on this assessment, instructional content can be modified to best continue teaching. These assessments don't affect the grade much.
Interim/Benchmark

Ex 1: Chapter Tests - Tests done at the end of every content chapter to see where the students stand in their learning of the content.
Ex 2: STAAR - Texas standardized test to see where all Texas students stand in their content grade level.
These assessments are used to see if students are on track in their learning and whether they are on track to continue doing well.
