Formative
Definition:
Formative assessment is a wide variety of methods that teachers use to assess each students ongoing progress. Teachers can use this information to readjust instruction or include one on one practice with a certain student who is struggling. These types of assessments contain little graded value.
Think-Pair-Share: The teacher will provide a question. The students will take a moment to think about their response. Then the students will pair up and discuss their responses. The the pairs will share their ideas with the class.

Exit Tickets: Students will write down what they learned from the lesson on a sticky note and stick it to the board.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: This type of assessment occurs multiple times thoughout the school year. They are used to determine if a student is on target in their learning to improve upon their future assessments.
District Assessments: These tests happen at the end of each unit to determine the student's mastery of the content for that topic.
STAAR: A State standardized test that is given to assess each student's mastery of their grade level content.
Summative
Definition: This type of assessment is used to judge the overall effectiveness of instruction for a unit. They evaluate student mastery over a topic, and are high stakes.
End of Unit Exam: These are exams given to determine student's overall knowledge for the school year.

Performance
Definition:This type of assessment requires students to demonstrate their content mastery by performing a task rather than answering test questions. This form of assessment is an engaging way to assess student knowledge.
Project: Students will create a project such as a poster, song, or play to demonstrate their new learning.
Debate: Students will split into teams to debate a topic relevant to their unit learning. The students will be required to use their mastery of the content to support their argument.

Diagnostic
Definition: This form of assessment is used in terms of a pre-assessment to assess a student's strengths and limitations of a concept as well as prior confusions. With this information teachers can plan their teaching points to meet student needs.
