Formative
**Definition: Assessments that are designed to assess student learning and gain feedback that can then be used to adjust instruction. These assessments also do not have a heavy impact on the grades of students.
Quickwrite: Type of assessment where students are given are topic or question and are asked to write a short paragraph over the topic or answering the question.
Exit Ticket: Type of assessment usually done at the end of a lesson where students are given a couple short questions with the purpose of assessing student's retention and understanding of the lesson
Summative
Definition: A type of assessment usually given at the end of a unit or large period of learning with the purpose of evaluating student learning over that period. These are usually worth a large chunk of student's grades.
Final Exams: An exam given at the end of the year designed to assess the knowledge of students over the tear.
Unit Test: An exam given at the end of a learning period designed to assess student knowledge from the period.
Diagnostic
Definition: A type of assessment with the purpose of identifying students strengths, weaknesses, and misconceptions.
KWL Chart: Assessment where students list, in order, what they know, what they want to know, and then what they learn.

Definition: An assessment designed to determine where students are in their learning and used to see if students are on track in their learning.
STAAR: A Texas standardized test given to students to assess their knowledge of material in certain grades levels.

Definition: A type of assessment in where students are asked to perform a task rather than answer questions.
Unit Project: Assignment students are given where they must create something that fulfills certain criteria.
