Formative
Short Answer Exit Ticket: Have students summarize their learning from a lesson in a short paragraph. Ex: Why was the Bill of Rights included in the Constitution?
Discussion/Questioning: Talking to your students about the content and asking questions about what they have learned is a low stress way to quickly gather evidence of learning from students in real time.
Performance
Using a Map: Have students use a map in geography, determining things like landmasses, rivers, or elevation.

Interim/Benchmark
STAAR: Assessments given by the State of Texas to determine students knowledge of content and the achievement of the student.
District Assessment: Assessments given by the school district to ensure students are being taught the correct content in the individual classrooms across the district.
Summative
End of unit Test: A physical or electronic test given at the end of a unit to determine content comprehension. These often take the form of multiple choice, true/false, or fill in the blank questions.
Essay: A paper written by students in response to a prompt derived from content. These can vary in length and complexity depending on the grade level it is used in.
Diagnostic
Pre-assessment: A short test given over content that will be covered in the class after the pre-assessment.
Sight Word Lists: Lists of frequently used words in speech and text used to help students build their vocabulary.
Formative Assessment: This is the process of gathering evidence of learning. Additionally, it provides feedback useful when content needs to be modified. These assessments are not usually graded.
Summative Assessment: These assessments evaluate student learning after an instructional unit. These are graded and usually weighted heavily.
Interim/Benchmark: This form of assessment is used to track student learning over multiple units to determine their success when mastering content
Diagnostic: used to determine a students skills, abilities, or acquired knowledge of a topic or subject. When used as a pre-assessment, teachers can determine misconceptions as well as identify focus areas within the content and give insight into differentiation that may be required in the classroom.
Performance: this type of assessment requires students to perform a task or procedure, not just answer questions about a topic.
