Assessments
Types of Assessment
Process of gathering purposeful and systematic measurement for documentation, reflection, and improvement of student learning and teaching practices.
Diagnostic
Examples: Surveys, KWL charts.
Definition: Assessment where students strengths and weaknesses are measured prior to learning. This type of assessment can help instructors better plan their instruction.
Summative
Examples: End of unit tests, final projects.
Definition: Assessment that typically happens at the end of a unit of learning. It evaluates student learning compared to standards.
Formative
Examples: Quiz, discussion post, quick writes, exit tickets, etc...
Definition: Assessment where evidence of student learning is gathered. Feedback is provided to the instructor so they can monitor and adjust instruction.
Performance
Examples: Writing a quick response, creating a presentation.
Definition: Assessment that has students complete certain tasks to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. This takes place of traditional testing.
Interim/Benchmarked
Examples: end of nine week assessments, midterms.
Definition: Assessment used to periodically monitor if a student is on track and are making adequate progress.
