Assessments
Performance
Definition: Performance assessments require students to move around and perform their understand on a topic rather than answering questions or writing.
Readers Theater: Students are given scripts and assigned roles to act out/perform that represent the topic being taught. They are also able to create their own scripts based on the lesson taught.
Presentations: Students must present to the class their findings and understanding of a specific subject/topic.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are fixed tests that compared students, checking to see if they are on track with their learning and their grade level
District Assessment: Given once a month over everything learned prior to test, looking to see if students are on track with their peers and if they are improving or not.
STARR Test: State mandated test given at the end of the school year to test overall knowledge from the year. Determines if students are ready to move onto the next grade level based on current understanding.
Formative
Definition: Formative assessments are continuously used throughout the school year to look at student progress and provide feedback. These assessments help change future lessons to enhance learning.

Exit Ticket: A prompt or question asked at the end of class to review students knowledge over the days lesson. (Students must turn in exit ticket before leaving class)
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are administered at the beginning of a new unit or lesson to test students strengths and weaknesses. The information for these assessments helps to adjust instruction for the lesson.
Pre-Tests: Given to students prior to starting a new lesson to see how well they already understand the content about to be taught.
Running Records: Reading assessment that looks at how well a student reads. Noticing fluency, comprehension, pacing and more.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are administered near the end of a unit or semester to look at students overall comprehension, these assessments typically have higher stakes than formative assessments.

Final Project: Students are asked to create a anchor chart or other hands on materials that represents what they learned over in the unit (or over the year).
