Summative
Definition: Summative Assessments are a type of assessment used to evaluate students understanding of material and key concepts at the end of a instructional segment.
9 Weeks Exams: Exams given out every 9 weeks in order to assess students at the end of an instructional cycle.
Content Quiz: A quiz given to students at the end of a content segment or unit used to assess the current level of understanding.
Performance
Definition: Performance Assessments are a type of assessment that asks students to show understanding of a concept or idea outside the bounds of traditional test structures.
Group Project: Students work in a group to create something and demonstrate their knowledge and collaborative skills.
Concept Mapping: Students will create a concept map in order to show learned knowledge and analysis skills.
Interim-Benchmark
Definition: Interim-Benchmark assessments are used to determine how well students are on track within planned learning parameters and to see if they are prepared for future summative assessments.
District Assessments: Tests given to every student in a school district to determine which areas of a district's instruction need improvement and to trash student's readiness for the STAAR.
STAAR: The State-Wide standardized test for public and parochial schools in Texas with the goal of assessing students' academic readiness and whether statewide curriculum standards are being met.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic Assessments are used prior to teacher instruction on a topic to gauge the preexisting level of understanding among students. This is then used to shape the rigor of planned instructional content and adjust instruction to meet student's needs.
Pre-Unit Exam: Students take an exam over the content within a unit about to be taught so that teachers can see the current level of the class which provides a benchmark to compare future assessments with.
Openers: Short Diagnostic quick-writes used to indicate how well students grasp foundational concepts of a lesson before it begins.
Formative
Definition: Formative Assessment is the process of gathering evidence of how well a student is learning and using that feedback to adjust instruction strategies and provide feedback in order to increase student comprehension.
Pro/Con Chart: Students will analyze a historical event or figure and write the pros or cons of a situation that the event or person caused or was a part of.
Kahoot Quiz: Students will participate in a engaging review game that will also provide the teacher to notice any areas of weakness or lack of understanding.
