Performance
Definition: A performance assessment is an assessment that requires students to preform a task rather than regular tests or answering questions.
Poem: Students will write a Septet using at least 4 poetic devices. Students will then present their poems to the class.
Group Presentation: Students will break into groups and choose from the poems provided and give a brief dramatic reading of the poem, and discuss their analysis of the poem they chose.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning at the end of a unit. There are usually high stakes, so they have a high grade value.
Unit Exam: This exam will be given at the end of the unit and will be used to evaluate everything the student has learned in the particular unit.
Poetic Devices Test: This test will be used to evaluate what the student has learned about poetic devices. They will define each device and answer several multiple-choice and matching question relating to the different devices.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are used to see where students are in their learning and determine if they are on track with their learning to do well on future assessments.
Mid-Term/Benchmark Exam: This exam will be given in the middle of the semester, in order to assess where the students are in their learning and what they have learned over a period of time.
Analysis Essay: Students will write an analysis over any poem from a given list, or an approved poem of their choice, and analyze the different poetic devices used and their importance.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used as forms of pre-assessment to determine student's strengths and weaknesses as well as prior misconceptions. This information can help teachers to plan their instruction to meets the student needs.
Pre-Instruction Quiz: This quiz is simply for the teacher to know how familiar the students is with the material before the start of the unit. This also gives the teacher background on what students were previously taught. This is simply a completion grade, and will, in no way, harm the student's grade.
Read and Summarize: Students will read a poem and give a brief summary. This is simply to gauge where students are at in level of comprehension. This assessment is not a quality grade, it is graded on completion.
Formative
Definition: Formative assessment is a way of assessing students to get feedback to use for modifying and adjusting instruction. These assessments are low stakes, so they have little to no grade value.

Exit Slip: Students will write their 2 favorite poetic devices and one that they are currently struggling with and need more clarification on.
