H.O.T Questions
What connections can you make between graphing linear relationships on a coordinate grid and how you have previously graphed inequalities on a number line? Is there a way to connect these two ideas? In your own words, describe what a solution set is.
How could you check if you have shaded the correct part of the graph? How could you rephrase the meaning of shading above the line?
How would you show your understanding of graphing inequalities on a coordinate plane? How could describing the inequality in words help you decide where your solution set is?

Formative
Information gathered from students that deals with student learning & understanding. This type of assessment is used to guide and adjust learning based on the evidence gathered. Feedback given to students is also a large part of this assessment type.
One example of formative assessment is the teacher ciruclating and listening to student discussions about a specific topic. Another example includes the use of exit tickets to give students immediate feedback and adjust instruction based on the understanding shown from the exit ticket.
-
Performance
Performance assessments are identified as asking the student to perform a specific task or create a project to show understanding and mastery of a concept. This type of assessment is the most authentic and you are able to see the most genuine understanding from the student.
Two examples of performance tasks include having students perform a laboratory experiment or creating a portfolio of finished work from a unit.

Interim/Benchmark
Interim assessments are a type of assessment that have measurable standards. Benchmark assessments are usually given thoughout the year to gauge student learning and understanding more formally than formative assessments.
Students can be given a short test over content learned in the first nine weeks of the year and this data can be compared class to class or school to school. A second example of benchmark assessment could be a reading test that includes reading specific words from a sheet of paper. This same paper will be read at different points throughout the semester to track growth.
Summative
Summative assessments are to evaluate student achievement of a large amount of learning. During this type of assessment, there is not a of student feedback given besides the grade. There is also not much adjustment to the instruction after the assessment is taken due to the amount of content is measures and the timeline that the summative assessment is given, These assessments are given at the end of units or years/

Diagnostic
A diagnostic assessment is an assessment used to gauge the current students understanding before teaching the content.
An example of a diagnostic assessment is for students to use the strategy called "brain dumping" and write everything they know or remember about a certain topic. Another example of a diagnostic assessment is for students to take a pre-quiz before starting new content.
