Desiderius Erasmus & Thomas More added their voices in as well, religious works were being read by Europeans who formed their own opinions of the church
Innovation
The printing press made spreading ideas easier
Writers and scholars started translating works into the local vernacular instead of latin
Printing press info

Information on the Protestant Reformation
Luther Challenges The Church
Why was Martin Luther unhappy with the sale of Indulgences
Martin Luther’s parents wanted him to be a lawyer. Instead, he became a monk and a teacher
Religion
People could receive salvation only by faith in God’s gift of forgiveness. The Church taught that faith and “good works” were needed for salvation.
Answer: Indulgences made it seem like people could buy their way into heaven made them think they got a free pass on their sins.
Indulgences were not supposed to affect God’s right to judge. Unfortunately, Tetzel gave people the impression that by buying indulgences, they could buy their way into heaven.
What caused Luther's ideas to spread throughout Germany
Luther Wrote 95 Theses attacking the pardon merchants. Posting his statements on the doors of the church. Making it able for someone to copy his work on the printing press
Inovation
The people with the printing press made it easier for his work to spread
With the support of the printing press his words quickly spread through Germany
Martin Luther was a German monk who began the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century
Link
All Church teachings should be clearly based on the words of the Bible. Both the pope and Church traditions were false authorities
All people with faith were equal. Therefore, people did not need priests to interpret the Bible for them
The Response To Luther
Conflict
Luther was at conflict with the Emperor and the Pope with a few princes on his side he would have a war started against him and his followers. They did end up losing this war but the offensive never could transfer their religions even after victory.
Luther had began as a simple rebel in the eyes of the Pope. But, later was seen as a much bigger threat when he started turning people from the Pope and said they should remove him by force.
Why do you think Charles V could not force Protestant princes back into the Catholic church even after defeating them in war?
Well, these people have spent a long time using their own ways of religion. As we know and have learned about people will fight tooth and nail for their religion even to death. So, even after the grueling defeat they knew in their hearts that there was something up with they way the Catholic church ran things. There was no way they would turn back after all the work put in so far.

Revolution
Why did Luthers teachings become popular and attract followers?
Well, many caught wind of him after he was threatened by both the Pope and the Emperor. After which he wrote a lot about what he thought religion should be looked at. Then with the help of other inquisitive people many branches of the church formed and him being the headstone of this made his a very famous man.
Luther was a trail blazer for his time. He was leader for many people and posed such a threat that even the Emperor set out to have him killed after his excommunication from the church. However, with princes on his side he was hidden in a castle and fed.
After being locked away for years and writing books and other literature explaining his beliefs people seemed to catch on to what he was saying. So, even more people broke off from the Catholic church and began their own studies which lead to many different forms of the same beliefs. Otherwise just know as "interpretations"

England Becomes Protestant
In 1529, he (Henry) called Parliament into session and asked it to pass a set of laws that ended the pope's power in England. This Parliament is known as the Reformation Parliament
In 1534, Henry's break with the pope was completed when Parliament voted to approve the Act of Supremacy. This called on people to take an oath recognizing the divorce and accepting Henry, not the pope, as the official head of England's Church.
More on Reformation Parliament
After Henry's death in 1547, each of his three children ruled England in turn.
When Mary died in 1558, Elizabeth, Anne Boleyn's daughter, inherited the throne.
Elizabeth 1st came into power at a time of religious turmoil. How did she deal with the question of religion?
Set up the Anglican Church and was first legal church in England. To please Protestants, their priests were allowed to marry, have sermons in English. For Catholics, kept rich robes for services. Catholics still tried to overthrow her.
Queen Mary of the Scots
Government Systems
When Henry VII became king of England in 1509, he was. a devout Catholic
Political needs, however, soon tested his religious loyalty. He needed a male heir. Henry's father had become king after a long civil war. Henry feared that a similar war would start if he died without a son as his heir.
Why did Henry 8th need a divorce or an annulment?
He and his wife Catherine only had a daughter and he wanted a son heir for fear of a civi war breaking out if he died without one.
Henry asked the pope to annul his marriage, but the pope turned him down. The pope did not want to offend Catherine's powerful nephew, the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.
