They believe that only Allah has the right to take life, and therefore carrying out the death penalty is 'playing God' and committing the sin of shirk.
Shari'ah law states that the family of a murder victim can accept money as reparation rather than enforce the death penalty.

FOR
Crimes according to the Sharia laws which could result in capital punishment include murder, rape, adultery, etc.
We ordained for them therein a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds is legal retribution.
"...Take not life, which God has made sacred, except by way of justice and law. Thus does He command you, so that you may learn wisdom"
CHRISTIANITY

The Church of England has not repealed the statement in Article 37 of its Thirty Nine Articles which says: The Laws of the Realm may punish Christian men with death for heinous and grievous offences
Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed Genesis 9:6
Exodus 21:23-25 establishes that punishment must be proportional to the offense. The extreme sanction of death should be considered only in the most serious offenses

Matthew 5:38-39 when he said: You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek

Punishment inflicted on someone as vengeance for a wrong or criminal act

Another method instead of Capital punishment which would heal instead of harm an individual

United States
American's punitive prison system which is overcrowded and has many mentally-ill prisoners locked up.
Sweden (and other Nordic countries)
Swedish prisons focus on the rehabilitation of prisoners, to limit re-offenders. Sweden has the smallest number of re-offenders in all of Europe, just 16%
United Kingdom
Protection of the public – prison protects the public from the most dangerous and violent individuals. Second, punishment – prison deprives offenders of their liberty and certain freedoms enjoyed by the rest of society and acts as a deterrent.
