Muscles Yoselin Orozco Madrigal Honors Anatomy
Name of all Skeletal Muscles:
Face Muscles:
Orbicularis Oris
: closes mouth/lips
Zygomaticus
: raises lateral corner, allows smiling
Orbicularis Oculi
: closes eye
Masseter
: prime mover of jaw closer
Temporalis
: closes jaw
Buccinator
: compresses check
Frontalis
: raises the eyebrow
Platysm
: tenses skin of neck
Hips Muscles:
Gluteous Maximus
: rear end muscle
Hamstring Muscles:
Fibularis
Longus
: side of calf
Gastrochemius
: calf
Biceps Femoris
: left side of hamstring
Semitendinosous
: right side of hamstring (next to biceps femoris)
Semimembranous
: most inner part of hamstring
Back Muscles:
Rhombon Major
: small muscle between trapezius & infraspinatus
Teres
Major
Infraspinatus
Latissimus Doris
: Lower back muscle
Trapezius
: Trapazoid shaped muscle from high neck to lower back
Back Arm Muscles:
Extensor Carpi Ulnaris
: Ulna muscle on the left
Extensor Digitorum
: most inner muscle next to extensor ulnairs
Triceps Brachi
: inner forearm muscle
Deltoid
: shoulder muscle
Neck Muscles:
Sternocleidomastoid
: side neck muscle
Thigh Muscles:
Gracilis
: most inner muscle in thigh
Rectus Femoris
: Biggest thigh muscle connects to patella
Adductor Longus
: next to gracilis seccond most inner muscle
Vastus Medialis
: inner big muscle
Sartorius
: long v shaped muscle
Vactus Laterialis:
lateral muscle (towards sides)
Iliopsoas
: thicker muscle next to v shaped muscle
Shin Muscle:
Tibialis Anterior
: Muscle where tibial bone is
Extensor Digitorum Longus
: Longest muscle in anterior shin
Soleus
: most inner muscle next to gastrochemius muscle
Abdominal Muscles:
Serratus Anterior
: next to armpit muscle
External Oblique
: lateral abdominal muscle
Rectus Abdominal:
six pack muscle
Pectoralis Major
: Breast/pectoral muscle
Action Potential in Muscle Fiber:
electrical signal that can travel along a cell membrane as a wave. This occurs at the surface of a muscle cell along membrane of T tubules.
Major functions of muscular system:
Maintain Posture
Stabalize Joints
Produce Movement
Generate heat
Sarcomere:
Srgmant of many myofibirl and one contractile unit. Consists of area between Z discs, aligns end to ends along myofibril train
Disorders:
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy:
most common and serious form of musclear dystrophies destroying disease that generally appears during childhood.
Myasthenia Gravis:
Disease characterized by dropping upper eyelids, difficult in swallowing and talking as well as muscle weakness. (Shortage of ACh receptors)
Sliding Filament Theory:
Contains a motor neuron that is in the brain. The motor neuron contracts sending signals to the brain. Inside the motor neuron are vesicles that contain neurotransmitters that cross to the muscle which are technically called acetylcholine. The T-tubules triggers the impulse that then allows the reticulum to release calcium.
Muscle Coverings:
Perimysium
: Fibrous connective tissue surrounding fascicles aka muscle fiber groups
Endomysium
: Fine irregular connective tissue surrounding entire muscle fiber
Epimysium:
Dense irregular connective tissue surrounding entire muscle
Neuromusclar Junction:
Region where the motor neuron contracts the skeletal muscle. It has multiple axon terminals and underlying junction fold of sarcolemma
3 types of muscles & functions:
Caridac
: at walls of heart
Smooth:
unitary muscle in walls of hollow visceral organs moves liquids
Skeletal
: attached to bone or skin (some facial muscles)
