Anthony Munoz period 5 Muscular system
3 types of muscle and their function
cardiac muscle
Cardiac muscle is responsible for the transfer of blood throughout the body.
smooth muscle
Smooth muscle is responsible;e for moving substances throughout the body.
Skeletal muscle
Skeletal muscle is responsible for the moving of the body such as lifting.
Major function of the muscular system
maintain posture
stabilize joints
produce movement
generate heat as they contract
sacromere
smallest contraction unit of a muscle fibers. Functional unit of muscle fiber.
names of all the skeletal muscle
sliding filament theory of muscle contraction
The sliding filament theory allows muscle to contract, myosin binds to actin, which pulls the actin filament which slides on the myosin filament.
neuromuscular junction
A neuromuscular junction, is a synapse between a motor nerve and a muscle fiber
Muscle covering
epimysiumidense
irregular connective tissue surrounding entire muscle: may blend with fascia.
endomysium
Fine areolar connective tissue surrounding each muscle fiber
perimysium
fibrous connective tissue surrounding fascicle
action potential in a muscle filber
Action potential is a type of impulse that is sent to your muscles via neuron that cause a muscle contraction. Once the nerve reaches the muscle they go down T tubules.
Muscle Disorders
duchenne muscular dystrophy
A genetic disorder that causes muscle weakness and degeneration. life expectancy is low in individuals that have DMD.
