Assessments
Formative
Formative assessment is a way to gather evidence of student learning, you can provide feedback immediately and the teacher can adjust instruction to provide the students what they need in the moment.
Examples :pencil2: Exit tickets given after instruction to evaluate student knowledge, Class polls taken anonymously to see how students are doing with content.

Interim/Benchmark
Benchmark assessments are given throughout a school year to evaluate achievement data and measure growth toward standards and goals.
Examples :pencil2: MAPS tests taken at beginning middle and end of year to evaluate student growth through years. District assessments given at the end of each unit of content.
Summative
Summative assessments are use to evaluate the students learning, typically at the end of a unit, course or semester. They are given at the end of an instructional period to measure progress toward a goal.
Examples :pencil2: Midterm or Final exams given at the end of a course or the end of a semester evaluating knowledge learned across months of content. STAAR tests taken at the end of a year testing the students in core subjects over content learned throughout the year.

Performance
Performance assessment measures how students apply their knowledge and skills to accomplish a task rather a test or quiz where the students just answer questions.
Examples :pencil2: Science labs testing students ability to use the knowledge they learned in class and apply it to hands on activities. A project at the end of a unit summarizing what they learned including a variety of content.

Diagnostic
Diagnostic assessment is done in order to diagnose or discover the students' strengths and weaknesses while learning and see what prior knowledge they have in order to leach efficiently.
Examples :pencil2: Entry tickets given prior to instruction to evaluate what knowledge students are coming to class with. Pre-Assessment quiz given prior to a unit to see what prior knowledge students have and see strengths and weaknesses.
