Formative
Definition: Formative assessment is a way of assessing students to get feedback to use for modifying and adjusting instruction. These assessments are low stakes, so they have little to no grade value.
Postcard: Students will write a postcard describing a Texas region to someone who has never been there before.
3-2-1 Exit Ticket: Students will write 3 things they learned, 2 things they found interesting, and 1 question they have after the lesson.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to evaluate a students learning at the end of a unit. These are usually high stakes, so they have a high grade value.

Definition: Interim/benchmark assessments are used to see where students are in their learning and determine if they are on track with their learning to do well on future assessments.

Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used as forms of pre-assessments to determine a students strengths and weaknesses as well as prior misconceptions. This information can help teachers plan their instruction to help meet students needs,
KWL Chart: Students state what they know first, then what they want to learn, and last what they do learn after the lesson is over.

Performance
Definition: A performance assessment is an assessment that requires a student to preform a task rather than regular tests or answering questions.
Act It Out: Students act out what they remember from a story, this can assess their reading comprehension skills.
