Where does this bias come from?
Gregoriou (2009): is the FEF source of enhanced synchrony in V4 during attention?
pre-notes
attentional effects on firing rates occurred earlier in FEF (80ms) than in V4 (130ms)
spike-field coherence in gamma band increased with attention within each area, in lower frequencies, desynchromization was observed
critical question: does attention increase coupled oscillations between FEF and V4?
effect on gamma sfc was larger between areas then within areas
coherence between V4 spikes and FEF LFPs increased (26%)
between FEF spikes and V4 LFPs increased (37%)
dependent on RF overlap at locus of attention
gamma frequency coherence between LFPs in both areas was enhanced 63%
spike coherence between spike trains increased by 13%
synchronous oscillations between V4 and FEF from common oscillatory input?
complicated stuff have a closer look
we would expect to result in zero phase-lag synchrony between areas (because if one the source of the ocillations they would occur earlier there)
yes!
but...
Thompson (2005)
only FEF 'visual' neutrons are active
hmmm...
Gregoriou (2012)
but yeah! we can actually see that only 'visual' FEF neurons are the source of sync with V4!! juhu!
juhu!
Lower (2012)
but...
BUT...
attentional modulation in V4 (therefore coming from FEF, as we assume based on what we know now) only when microsaccades occur! so there must be movement (even though only a little)
so yeah, maybe it's right
the storyline of the
premotor theory of attention
pta - yes
pta - no
