Formative
Definition: Formative Assessment is the process of gathering information, providing feedback, adjusting instruction strategies to enhance achievement, and allowing learners to change behaviors.
Entry slips: Start the class off with a quick question about the previous day’s work while students are getting settled—you can ask differentiated questions written out on chart paper or projected on the board
Self-assessment: You can give your rubric to your students and have them spot their strengths and weaknesses.
Summative
Definition: Summative Assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark.

Definition: Diagnostic Assessments are intended to help teachers identify what students know and can do in different domains to support their students' learning.

Definition: Interim/Benchmark Assessment is a comparison of student understanding or performance against a set of uniform standards within the same school year.

Performance
Definition: Performance Assessments measure how well students apply their knowledge, skills, and abilities to authentic problems.
Presentations: This activity could be done by students, which takes time, or in collaborative groups. Students may choose to add in visual aids or a PowerPoint presentation or Google Slides to help illustrate elements in their speech.
