Exploration Of Women's rights with abortion - Coggle Diagram

- - - - I know that a women normally doesn't realize that she is pregnant until around 6 weeks...
        
        My target audience is the State Legislators, mostly focusing on the Texas and some of the Bible belt, and Colorado.
        
        I am going to be focusing on the leaders of the states senates like Dan Patrick, (republican) who is Texas's president of Senate. The age range of my target audience is 56-60. Who have a lot of experience in politics, a bachelors degree, and excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
        
        I don't want to only include Texas due to the fact that there is a lot of evidence and support showing that other states will be looking to replicate their new law.
        
        My stakeholders are women who either need, have had, or want an abortion. These people are the most effected by the law because it is their body but not currently their choice.
        
        Another stakeholder could be anyone who has helped, given or aided an abortion because they are also affected by the law change.
        
        The new law is one of the most restrictive abortion law in the nation, it only allows abortion incase of a medical emergency, not in rape situations or incest. There needs to be a way to not restrict women in such a way.
        
        Issue Restrictions on abortion can be sexist, racist, and elitist.
        
        Birth control which can be used to prevent pregnancies is not a universal right in America, with the additions to abortion restrictions there is a lot of problems with birth control prices increasing. Meaning a lot of people in lower class are not able to get the protections they need to prevent pregnancies like the pill, IUD, implant. (Castle)
        
        While the health care system in place in America has been racist, the new abortion restrictions are just increasing the racism that is in place.
        
        Any restrictions on a women's body being made by a group of men, is sexist. Especially when it is on our right to choice to have children which is giving half of our body to it for 9 months, before having to force the child out of us in an extremely painful way. Somehow Texas made a already sexist thing even more sexist by paying private citizens up to $10,000 to spy on, snitch on and sue anyone who has “aided or abetted” a woman in having an abortion after six weeks of pregnancy (which, to be clear, is just two weeks after a woman misses her period). There is no exception for women pregnant from rape or incest.(Filiovic)

        I need to narrow down and figure out my real target audience
        
        Women in Texas- this women are the most affected by this new law,
        
        College students-with abortion rates being the highest during the early ’20s. It is the first time a lot of people get freedom, including sexual freedom
        
        Law makers- aka Legislators, mostly in Texas, but looking at other states like Colorado, Florida, etc...
        
        Abortion protestors- pro-life, support this bill and our fighting for it in there state, example the people who stand out side the planned parenthood on shields
        
        Abortion supporters- pro choice, people who have helped people get an abortion or support women having a choice
        
        Texas senates, Ted Cruz and John Cornyn. Both in the republican party.

        The law was signed by the republican governor Greg Abbott in May.
        
        The supreme court denied an effort from abortion activists to halt the new laws in Texas, (NAJMABADI)
        
        Rather than having the state government enforce the ban, the Texas law allows private citizens to sue anyone who helps a woman receive an abortion after a heartbeat is detected. A successful plaintiff in such a case could receive at least $10,000 from the abortion provider or others in damages.
        
        People think that Texas is the blueprint for other republican lead states.

        How does this effect abortion clinics in the states that this law is passed in?
        My initial assumptions are that there is going to be a negative effect on the ability for anyone to sue places that help women get abortions.

        Pro-choices are not my target audience due to the fact we have the same views so there isn't a need for me to try and get them on my side, I am thinking that they could be audience invoked, because they might support my agruement
        
        The U.S. Justice Department also asked a federal judge in Austin to temporarily block the law while its constitutionality is challenged because under Roe v.       - initial perspective; I thought that this topic would be an easy choice because on the day that we were thinking of topics was when I heard about the new law, I thought that with such a huge new law it would be easy to research and I have a lot of personal interest due to my own political and personal beliefs that a women should always have a choice on what happens to their body.
        
        I know that in Ohio, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Alabama, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Texas that the heart beat law has been passed. What factors do these states have that allowed it to be passed?
        
        Looking at one of my sources I learned about something called the Bible belt, which is a region in the South of the US, that are described as the most religious who play strong roles in politics and governing while using interpretations of the bible. (Castle) Does the bible belt affect the law makers in the areas?
        Is this region growing?
        
        The Christian right raises money to support the (ultra) conservative state level candidates and legislators to have them support their religious views. They provided strategic financial support to Political Action Committees (PACs), such as the Republican State Leadership Committee and the Club for Growth, that lobby for legislation and ballot initiatives and support pro-life candidates for political office
        
        With the finical support from religious groups, it makes sense that the lawmakers have a biased choice and more likely to vote in the groups favor, like in favor to ban abortion.

        STATES IN BIBLE BELT AND THEIR ABORTION LAWS
        
        Alabama- all abortion is banned expect in cases of medical emergencies
        
        Arkansas- banning abortion after 18 weeks, with exceptions made for rape, incest, and medical emergencies
        
        Georgia- bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. Exceptions are made for mothers whose lives are at risk due to the pregnancy and in cases of rape or incest if a police report is filed
        
        Kentucky-bans abortions after six weeks that was struck down.legal prior to 20 weeks of pregnancy
        
        Louisiana-banning abortion after six weeks of pregnancy or after a heartbeat can be detected and does not make exceptions for cases of rape or incest.
        
        Mississippi-legal before 20 weeks of pregnancy. Minors must have both parents notified of the procedure. There is a 24-hour waiting period after the woman receives mandatory counseling and notification about the procedure, including a mandatory ultrasound and heart tone.
        
        North Carolina- are legal prior to 20 weeks of pregnancy and only legal after the 20 weeks if the mother's health or life is at risk.
        
        Oklahoma-legal prior to 22 weeks of pregnancy
        
        South Carolina- is permitted in the first trimester, permitted with restrictions on facilities in the second trimester, and is banned in the third trimester unless the pregnancy poses a risk to the mother's health or life
        
        Tennessee- bans abortions after fetus viability
        
        Texas- allows any person to be able to sue someone who performs, gets, or help someone get an abortion once "cardiac activity" in an embryo can be detected which is usually at around six weeks of pregnancy.
        
        Utah- currently legal in Utah if done before viability and after viability if the woman's life is at risk, if pregnancy is the result of rape or incest, or if the fetus has a lethal defect.
        
        There is a theme that most of these places have more restrictions in place or have tried to get more restriction on abortion.Showing that there is a correlation between heavily influenced religious areas & abortion laws.
