Assessments
Formative
Definition: The process of gathering evidence of student learning. Formative Assessments are also used to provide feedback and adjust instruction.

Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used at the end of a unit or at the end of a year. These types of assessments are always taken for a grade.
RAFT Writings are used as summative assessments to see if students were on track for the unit they just learned.
CFA: CFA tests are given on a chrome book at the end of the unit to assess student learning for that unit.
Performance
Performance assessments are used that require students to complete a task rather than take a test where they answer questions.
APE MAN: students performing ape man in chemistry allows the teacher to see the students can exhibit the skills needed to figure out the number of neutrons.
Science Labs: Students creating or performing science labs is an example of a performance assessment.

Definition: Benchmark assessments are used to determine whether or not students are at the correct level of learning for their age and grade level.
STAAR Test: STAAR test is a standardized test that is used to measure student learning based on where their progress should be for their grade level.
District Assessment: District assessment is given on the chrome book and is used at the end of 9 weeks to assess how students are doing in that grade.
Diagnostic
Diagnostic Assessments are used to assess students strengths and weaknesses in their learning in order for teachers to ensure they are using the correct learning tools and strategies for success.
KWL Chart: Students fill out a chart about what they know, want to know, and what they learned. This is a good way for teachers to see growth in their students and what their prior knowledge is before beginning a lesson.
Pre Test: Allows teachers to see students prior knowledge before starting a lesson to ensure that instruction is appropriate for students.
