Oral Presentations
Giving the presentation
Show up for the presentation early in case there are any last minute technical issues and to feel out and become familiar with the space.

-
Ensure that you are clearly heard, even in the back of the room.
Avoid the use of "um", "ok", and "so" as these phrases during a presentation can be distracting for the audience and make you appear unsure of what you are presenting.
Place yourself on either the left or right side of the presentation screen and avoid blocking the view of the audience.
Face the audience during the presentation, make eye contact, and smile.

-
-
Use wording that signifies an ending is near and summarize the information highlighting the significance of the study. Also include any future studies if relevant and give thanks to those who helped during the process.
Preparing for a talk
Give yourself plenty of time to prepare a good presentation. This allows for proofreading and recitation practice.
Use simple, but visually appealing slides
The slide text, graphics, and figures should be balanced.
Limit the amount of text per slide and use succinct bullet points. Verbally elaborate on any key points to ensure the audience doesn't get lost.
-
-
Use a legible standard font like Arial, Times New Roman, or Calibri in a font size that the audience can clearly read.
Do not use figure captions or legends. Instead explain the information contained within the figure verbally.
