Formative
Exit ticket: Have the students write about 1 important thing that they learned, 1 thing they found interesting, and 1 question they still have
Definition: This is a way to assess students to get feedback to use for modifying and adjusting instruction. These are very low stakes which means that they typically don't have a grade value.
Classroom polls: Students will be asked to circle a happy or sad face about how they felt about the lesson that they learned on pear deck.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: These are used to gauge where students are in their learning and help to determine whether or not the students are on track. They help establish baseline achievement data and measure progress toward a standard set of academic standards and goals.
STAAR: State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness. This is a standardized test that is give to students in order to assess their learned knowledge/achievements. Administered to grades 3-high school.
MAP: Measure of Academic Progress that is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth
Summative
Definition: These are used to evaluate student learning and the knowledge that students retained at the end of a unit. These typically have high stakes so their grade value is also high.
End of term exams: These are exams that are administered at the end of a semester or term and are used to gauge student knowledge of a certain period of time
Chapter Tests: These are tests that are administered at the end of a unit or chapter to gauge how much knowledge the students obtained and retained over the specified chapter.
Performance
Definition: This is a form of testing that requires students to perform a certain task rather than selecting an answer from a pre-made list.
Designing a presentation: Students pick a certain topic to teach to the class in the form of a presentation (google slides, powerpoint, poster, etc.)
Creating a concept map: Students create their own concept map to show their knowledge of a certain topic.
Diagnostic
Definition: a form of pre-assessment where teachers can evaluate students' strengths, weaknesses, knowledge and skills before their instruction.
Running Records: A way to assess students' reading level by recording their behavior while they read a book.
Dolch Sight Word Lists: This assessment correlates with all Make, Take & Teach sight word instructional materials. Knowing which words your students already know will help the teacher to differentiate instruction.
