Violence 🩸
Macbeth
-
-
Although violence was seen as brave at first, as the play goes on, it is seen as unnecessary
-
Immediately set up to be a violent character as the first thing we hear of him is him unseam'd [Macdonald] from the nave to th'chaps
Very disturbing and gory image created, foreshadowing the further horrors he will perform later on
His violence at the beginning foreshadows his own ending, seen when he fix'd his head upon our battlements, which is what happens to Macbeth himself
We receive a good first impression of Macbeth by how brave he is and through Duncan's praising remarks (Noble Macbeth, valiant cousin, worthy gentleman), but this slowly disintegrates as the play goes on
-
Good and bad violence
-
At the start, violence is seen to be a good trait and a sign of masculinity
