Transcribing
The purpose of clean read is to ensure the transcript is concise and clear, without interruptions
We omit any stutters, unnecessary filler words
uh, ugh, um, er, kind of, sort of, like, you know

0.General
1.Spelling in Happy Scribe jobs follows the UK spelling, unless the language selected by the user is US-English. In that case the transcription should follow US spelling rules
- Never transcribe in external editor (Word for example) and then paste the text into Happy Scribe's editor.
- When you encounter a job that has a song and lyrics ONLY, do not transcribe the lyrics of the song and do not submit the job. Instead, unclaim it and select the reason ‘No speech detected’
- Please note, once you have submitted a job, you cannot alter and correct the text afterwards
5.Avoid writing excessively long paragraphs. Look for natural points in the speech, such as a shift in topic, emphasis, or reference, to start a new paragraph
- You must assign a speaker to all paragraphs, even if there are multiple consecutive paragraphs from the same speaker.
1. Punctuation
Happy Scribe speech to text engines might add unecessary periods and comas leading sentences to be structured inacurately. You should fix these issues when needed.
Commas
When a speaker list 3 or more items, use the Oxford comma
EXAMPLES (e.g,) : I bought apples, pears, and blueberries from the supermarket
When the word So begins a sentence, do not place a comma afterward
EXAMPLES(e.g,) : , So what do you think of my haircut?

Ellipses
- Use to indicate a speaker has trailed off or paused significantly in the middle of a statement.
2.Use an ellipsis if the same speaker cuts herself off and changes direction. Do not use a hyphen if a speaker cuts herself off.
-
- Capitalize the word after an ellipsis if it starts a new sentence.
-
-
Hyphens
-
- Use to indicate abrupt interruptions and cutoffs of one speaker by
another speaker.
2.When a speaker spells out a word, transcribe it in caps and dashes.
EXAMPLE (e.g.,) H-A-P-P-Y
-
-
Curse words
If curse words appear in the audio, transcribe them word for word.
Et cetera vs etc.
- Et cetera and its more common abbreviation, etc., are used to show that a list of at least two items is incomplete.
2.Either 'et cetera' or 'etc.' can be used but once you choose an option, it is best to stick with the same one for the whole transcript. Avoid using both in the same transcript.

6. Difficult words
Context shouldn't be guessed. If you encounter a term that is unclear, you must listen to the speech multiple times and research it:
-
If it’s still unclear, use an [inaudible hh:mm:ss] tag.
7. Foreign languages
When you encounter a job that contains entirely or at least 80 percent of a foreign language, you must unclaim it due to the reason ‘Unsupported Language’.
If you encounter a job that contains entirely a foreign language and English subtitles, please unclaim it due to reason ‘Unsupported Language’.
When you encounter a job that contains both a foreign language and English, do not transcribe the foreign part. Use a [foreign language hh:mm:ss] tag and transcribe the English part only.
If you encounter a job that contains English and a foreign language with English subtitles, please do not copy the subtitles. Transcribe the English part only.
-
9.Speaker Labeling
Add Speaker
Never create your own descriptive speaker labels: e.g. “Old man” or “Blue shirt guy”. A reasonable effort must be made to distinguish speakers using the rules below:
-
-
10. No speech in file
We never want to charge a customer for a file where the audio has been too difficult to work on or where we haven't been able to transcribe the file for them.
Additionally, you will not be paid if you submit a file as 'Done' when there is no audio.
In the case where there is no audio - or very little, terrible audio - it is important that you do two things when you encounter these files
