Formative Assessment
Definition: Formative assessment is a planned, ongoing process teachers use to asses student learning during a lesson to adjust instruction for better student achievement.
Example 2: Partner turn and talk- students will turn and talk to a partner and write down 3 takeaways they learned in class and one question they still have after the lesson.
Example 1: Google forms survey- students will answer a short google forms at the end of class answering 5 questions from the lesson in class.

Definition: Summative assessment is used to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it to a benchmark.

Diagnostic
Definition: a test where teachers can evaluate students strengths, weaknesses, knowledge and skills before their instruction.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are a comparison of student learning or performance against a set of standards in a school year.
Example 2: Chapter test- a test given after reading a chapter within the standards of the curriculum.
Example 1: Individual project- a project given to a student over a topic related to standards with a specific rubric given.
