Delaney clause
(a clause in the food and additive amendment to the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act)
states that no substance that is known to cause cancer in animals or human beings at any dose level shall be added to foods.

food allergy
a reaction of bod's immune system to a food or food ingredient, usually a protein. the immune system perceives that reaction-provoking substance, or allergen, as foreign and acts to destroy it
