Theory of Instruction by Robert Gagne: Urban Planning
Nine events of instruction
3.Stimulating recall of prior learning
Letting the students watch YouTube videos of the most sustainable cities in the world, so they see how the concepts and principles were incorporated in these cities.
4.Presenting the content
Present and explain the different concepts and principles
Providing learning guidance
Provide students with different materials to study
Eliciting performance
Get students to start drawing and applying the different concepts
Informing learners of objectives
Inform the students of the objectives of the course. Explain that they need to incorporate certain principles and concepts to achieve a sustainable town.
Providing feedback
Assessing their drawings to see if the concepts and principles are being illustrated accordingly and giving remarks.
8.Assessing performance
Students would have to present a complete drawing detailing all the concepts and principles applied in their layouts
Gaining attention
Present a 3D urban planning model to the students
9.Enhancing retention and transfer
Students would then have to demonstrate their understanding by applying these principles to existing cities and towns in South Africa.
