What is it about
the poem is about although we are all different we are mostly the same and members of the same human family.
Who is the author - she is an black lady that lived in America when Martin Luther King was alive.

Aliteration (using the same letter or sounds repeatedly to make the words flow
Sailed upon the Seven Seas
This technique makes the words flow and you imagine being on the ship. She also uses a common phase "Seven Seas" so it sticks in your mind
What was her motivation
She wanted to make the point that we should treat each other the same and not discriminate because of race, gender or religion. She was very affected by the death of MLK and became an activists for black equality.
Quote 2 is about rhymn
We love and lose in China, we weep on England's moors, and laugh and moan in Guinea, and thrive on Spanish shores
the rhymn is ABCB (as the second line and last line rhymn)
She uses rhyme to make the story flow and keep a rhymn as you read it, it keeps the structure of the poem
Quote 3 is repetition
the poet uses repetition to make the point of the poem
She repeats the last few stanzas - add quote
this is make the point that we are all the same even though different - this is a technique to emphasis the whole purpose of the poem
She also repeats - I note the obvious differences at the start and at the end of the poem to make the point again
Conclusion
- she uses different techniques to make the reader visualize her words, thinking about themselves and their lives. She makes it seem real and about yourself. It is a poem about hope and everyone realising we are deep down the same
