Tissue - Coggle Diagram
Tissue
Connective
Aerolar
-
-
Apperance:
It appears as a loose arrangement of collagenous and elastic fibers, scattered cells of various types
-
Adipose
Function: Protective cushion, insulation to preserve body heat and stores energy
-
-
Reticular
-
-
Apperance:
Reticular connective tissue resembles areolar connective tissue, but the only fibers in its matrix are reticular fibers.
-
Dense
Apperance:
Dense connective tissue is often seen as the capsules enclosing organs and, in particular, tubular structures.
-
Location:
Found in tendons and ligaments, OR found in the lower layers of the skin.
-
Cartilage
Function:
Keeps joint motion fluid by coating the surfaces of the bones in our joints and by cushioning bones against impact. It is not as rigid as bone, but is less flexible than muscle tissue.
Location:
Ends of ribs, ears, nose, layrnx, and trachea.
-
-
Nervous
Location: The brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
-
-
Epithelial
Simple Squamous
-
Location:
Air sacks of the lungs, lining of the heart, and blood vessels.
Appearance:
Tall and narrow, giving a column like appearance.
-
Transitional
-
-
Appearance:
In a relaxed state appears as a stratified cuboidal epithelium. The cells in the transitional epithelium are pear-shaped or round, but as tissue is stretched, cells flatten.
-
Stratified Cuboidal
Appearance:
Consists of many layers of cells, of which the cells on the outmost layer are cube-shaped. The lower, deeper layers can be both cuboidal or columnar in shape. They are tightly packed with no gap.
-
Function:
Makes physical connections between cells, acting as a wall, forcing nutrition to pass through cells.
Location:
Stratified cuboidal epithelium is found in sweat glands, salivary glands, and mammary glands.
Simple Cubodial
Function:
This type of epithelium lines collecting ducts and tubes and is involved in absorbing or secreting material into the ducts or tubes.
-
Appearance:
Simple cuboidal epithelium consists of a monolayer of epithelial cells that appear to be square-shaped in cross section.
-
Stratified Squamous
Appearance:
Consists of mostly squamous cells, with only one layer in contact with the basement membrane.
-
-
Location:
Lines the esophagus, mouth, and vagina.
-
Stratified Columnar
-
Location:
Found in the conjunctiva, pharynx, anus, and male urethra.
-
Simple Columnar
-
-
Appearance:
Simple columnar epithelium consist of a single layer of cells that are taller than they are wide.
-
Glandular
Function:
Produce different secretory products, such as sweat, saliva, breast milk, digestive enzymes, and hormones.
Location:
Most of the outer and inner surfaces of the body, including the skin, urogenital system, and the digestive tracts.
Appearance:
Glandular epithelial cells are shown by rectangular shapes, which line the exterior of the glands.
