Supervisor meeting notes - 2021-10-18
Kate, Mark and Derek all present
Upcoming meeting with Stephen
Seems like there will be few things I require from the RB
Liaison to return CBM assemblages on loan and, later, CBM offcuts
Make sure to ask if there will be a seamless transition to Stephen's successor or whether there will be an interim period during which someone is temporarily responsible for granting permissions etc.
Has Stephen Bird left, and is there a replacement already? Could this have implications for the project?
Are permissions that have already been granted concrete, or could new director/manager refuse permissions or ask for changes to sampling strategies approved?
Will I be handed over to Stephen's replacement as a supervisee or to all intents and purposes does my project wind down with Stephen?
Make sure I am clear (and that it is in writing) what is happening to CBM from the project and that I have permission to perform the sampling I have proposed at the designated locations
Start at 12 noon, probably 2.5 hours including presentation, lunch and board game
Progress with pXRF
Draft sampling strategy and submit to supervisors
500 samples x10 minutes per sample
Every 10 analyses CRM reading
1 hour at start of each session to warm up instrument
=> c.14 days of analysis at 6 hours of analyis per day (after warm up and tea/lunch breaks)
Booked out pXRF and lab for coming weeks so will complete as soon as Bath meeting wrapped up
HE permissions
When is the final deadline for a response before ex-situ sampling is implemented instead?
Consider factors listed in adjacent section
45 samples + time for CRM readings every 10 analyses + warm up time
c.7.75 hours without warm up => 2 days for total analysis
Perhaps 1 week to allow for sample cupping, pXRF and comparative analyses?
Cliveden sampling
Purchase order placed
This done on ex-situ sampling, but in-situ sampling has the same reference code and is cheaper so should be able to be completed under the same purchase order without any problems
Need to get entire process and responsibilities of sampling wrapped up to decide final date before in-situ sampling ruled out
Who do I need to liase with at the museum?
How do I organise access for Cliveden to sample?
Is this through Zosia or facilities Managers?
Can it be carried out at a time between RB Managers and, if so, whose responsibility will it temporarily be and is this likely to be problematic?
What time out of hours is this likely to take place?
How many days of sampling will this need then (and where I am present)?
Will this require liaison with Stephen's replacement?
How long will cupping samples take?
Are there enough sample cups and film at BU to complete this?
How large are the sample cups?
What about drilling and cupping of comparative geological material?
How long will pXRF analysis take?
How long to process data and draw conclusions?
South Mole Deep thing
Poster outside Dean's office said mid-late IA date for brushwood structure but with Purbeck Marble slabs added on top
Is this IA and how does it relate to other IA and then extensive Roman stone use in the area?
Chase up publications about mole, and if not finding anything then contact Eileen Wilkes as it is her research
