Karsia Campaign Motivations
Major Players
Vala
#
#
Finally rest in peace
A final resting place near the Liar
It will have to wait until balance is restored
Be free from the torment of memories and be near the Liar again
The remains need to be moved from the Abyss to the Firmament
Restore the flow of magic and reincarnation
Magic is restored either in the sunken temple or the hidden temple; Reincarnation is restored in the Liar's temple
The balance must be restored before the Benevolent performs her ritual, in order to allow the Abyss to remove her from power
The Abyss will be healed, the Firmament can maintain the balance, and the Foundation can purify the corruption
A series of trials must be performed at each temple to restore balance and fix the cycle
Pass on the Abyssal Mantle
The process must be started in the Abyss
The process takes at least a year to complete
The Abyss's power is a curse now, instead of a blessing
A host must accept a piece of the Abyss, prove they're worthy, and make a final decision
The Liar
#
Bring Vala back to life
Go to the Abyss and make a bargain
As soon as possible
He misses her, her life was cut short
Find her remains, bring them to the sunken temple, make a bargain
Convince the Benevolent to find peace
Go to her temple and reason with her
As soon as possible
Still loves her, salvage the family he has left
Bring evidence of Parents' wrongdoing, reason that there's no turning back and the only thing left is to repair the damage
Live out life with the Moon
Their home is in the Firmament
After restoring the rest of his family
He has been separated from her for too long
Go home to the temple, stay with her
The Benevolent
#
Destroy the world
Restore power at Foundations temple, ruin ritual at Firmament temple
Once she has restored her power
See the Parents' wishes fulfilled
Intentionally ruining a ritual
Make the Others and the Liar suffer
In their own temples
Either before or while destroying the world
They are responsible for "killing" the Parents
Ruin their creations and eventually kill them
Be with the Parents again
Bring them back to the Foundations
After she destroys the world
She misses them and loves them
After intentionally ruining the ritual, she'll do the ritual for real and bring them back
The Moon
#
Find the Liar
Send their children to find him
He must be somewhere on the Foundations
As soon as possible
She wants her love back
Kill the Benevolent
As soon as possible
Fight to the death
Either at the Foundations temple or the Firmament temple
She killed Vala and attempted to kill her children
The Foundations, Abyss, and Firmament
Foundations: Banish the Benevolent and the Liar.
Reasoning
: They both have caused too much trouble to deserve remaining. Send them to their Parents and seal them away.
Firmament Criticism
: They have done what they did out of pain. The Benevolent should not remain alive, but the Liar's only crime is being a fool trying to right his family's wrongs. Let him live out a mortal life
Abyss Criticism
: Banishing the Benevolent is giving her exactly what she wants; essentially, she'll have one. The Liar should be rewarded for his efforts to restore the balance, and should be left alive.
Abyss: Resurrect Vala and punish the Benevolent.
Reasoning
: Vala is absolutely vital to maintaining balance in magic, and needs to be brought back to life. The Benevolent has caused great harm and must suffer as Vala has suffered.
Foundations Criticism
: Vala is not nearly as vital to the balance; anyone could take her place. The Benevolent will not see the punishment as a lesson to learn, but an obstacle to overcome; just send her back to her Parents and seal them all away.
Firmament Criticism
: Vala has suffered enough; giving her life would prolong the suffering, not ease it. The Benevolent, too, has suffered; she deserves rest just as every creature does.
Firmament: Put Vala to rest and make the Liar mortal.
Reasoning
: Vala deserves mercy. The Liar is distracting the Moon and has betrayed her love many times already. He should be mortal, like all fools are.
Abyss Criticism
: The Liar and Vala are both vital to the balance of magic and the reincarnation cycle. Vala is too vital; removing the Liar would anger the Moon and cause possible rebellion.
Foundations Criticism
: Vala is insignificant; let someone else deal with her. The Liar has caused too much trouble to be allowed to live any longer in this plane.
Compromise: Each deals with their "Champion."
Firmament: Make Liar mortal
Abyss: Resurrect Vala
Foundations: Banish Benevolent
