Summative
Definition: Assessments that are used for evaluating student achievement at the end of a unit. These assessments usually have a pretty high effect on students grade because they cover multiple modules.
Midterm: An assessment that is given at the half way point of the academic year to test what the student has learned so far.
Portfolio: Often given as a project, students are able to show all of their work and make comments on certain activities they have done to show what they have learned.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic Tests are used to assess students strengths and weaknesses, also used as a form of pre-test. The information gathered is used to address students needs.
KWL Chart: Shows what a students Knows, needs to learn and wants to learn within a unit.
504 Assessments:Help show where a student is at, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and if they should be evaluated for SPED.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are assessments that are used to see where the students is and if they are on track/pace with the curriculum.
CFA: A benchmark that is given at the end of each module to test what a student has learned during that period.
STAAR: An assessment that is given at the end of the year to see what the student has learned throughout the entire academic school year.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessments require students too do a task rather than answering test questions.
Creating a poster: In order to show what students know without taking a test. Students can create posters full of information about what they learned in a unit.
Making a game: Helps teachers know that their students understand the material enough that they can use it to make a game for other students to play.
Formative
Definition: Process of gathering evidence of student learning. Provide feedback to students for improvement. Have little to no effect on students grade.
Exit Ticket: Students answer a short question quiz or do a quick write over what they learned in the lesson.
