Applications of AM processes
Rapid Prototyping of Products and Components
LS
FDM
fdm and sls is best to use rapid prototying because they are made from plastic and are also simple and i think you can use sla which is good to use because they also can anke this out of plastic and also hey use a computor to more the laser to where ever they want but i think its much longer than fdm. its best to use fdm as it much quicker and its only for simple designs
Digital manufacturing
wire deposition
consumer products
powder bed
industrial components
with wire deposition people use this for big projects or bigger componenst and Among the different additive manufacturing techniques, wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is suitable to produce large metallic parts owing to the high deposition rates achieved, which are significantly larger than powder-bed techniques, with wire depostion is much faster and better than any other amnufactoring process with powder bed i think wire is much faster and better to use in the digital manufactoring industry
Moulds and Tooling
FDM
patterns
molds
LS
casting near net shapes
jigs
fixtures
they are made out of fdm or sls the difference between these to is that fdm is for products that are simple and dont need to much or detail where as with sls it much more better has is you had a product from a fdm and a product from a sls then the sls would be much smoother and much refined and with fdm it would have lines and marks and sls is much stronger than fdm. with fdm to make these product it will take much quicker to make ay of these products as its made out f plastic and also it can use metal, because of simple the jig is it doesnt need a big porcessor to make it so its find to use a fdm or sls because it would be much cheaper. you can use wire depsosition but it will be much expensive
personalised fabrication
FDM
home and machine repairs
personal products
customisation
fdm is easy too use and because f the products from personalised fabrication as they are simple fdm are used to make only simple parts and its good to use this if you used wire deposition then it cannot be used as this is expensive and can only be used for metal materials with fdm its much cheaper too so its best to fdm
biomedical
FDM
Hearing Aids
Prosthetics
Human tissue
Implants
Dental
They use FDM 3d printing because they use abs plastic and is very light compare to metal if they use like resin as the material then it will be poisonous when breathed in so the most likely use abs. In dental the uses of 3D printing include the production of drill guides for dental implants, the production of physical models for prosthodontics, orthodontics and surgery, the manufacture of dental, craniomaxillofacial and orthopaedic implants. with human tissues their goal is to produce scaffolds to repair or replace damaged tissues and organs. Three-dimensional printing uses a bottom-up approach and they use this as its strong and lightweight. the hearing aid is the same thing like the rest its because it strong which means that it wont break when having it and also they used fdm to make it out of plastic because if it was made out of metal then it might be too heavy by the ear. 3D printing made prosthetics cool and affordable. Almost as soon as affordable 3D printing technologies became available, literally dozens of projects have focused on using them to produce prosthetics at accessible costs to people in developing countries or to children.
using fdm is much better than using any other additive manufacturing processes because with fdm they make specifically plastic parts like the hearing aids or human tissues. you cant use wire deposition because they are used to make metal parts and are used in aerospace and manufacturing you can use Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)
but they dont use this as it much expensive than fdm.
Manufacture of Aerospace and Automotive Components
Powder bed
Wire deposition
wire and powder bed are both used in making automotive parts and aerospace manufacture because with wire deposition you can make parts out of metal and because automotive parts are made out of metal its easier to use wire deposition and they can use fdm or sls as they are used for much simple designs and cannot produce high tech parts liike the engine or the bonnet
