Applications of AM Processes, LS - Coggle Diagram
Applications of AM Processes
Manufacture of aerospace and automotive components
Wire deposition
Bike prototype
Titanium alloy airframe wing spar
Rocket Nozzles
Powder bed technology
Impeller
Cabin bracket
Wire deposition is a type of direct energy deposition which also includes arc welding which allows it to 3D print metal parts etc., and it functions by melting a metal wire and using an electrical arc as the provider of the heat source. The reason why wire deposition is used for these certain products are since it is cheaper than other processes and can produce high-quality parts etc.
Powder bed technology or Powder bed fusion is a method or process which uses either a laser or a beam to fuse the material powder together and you can make a 3D object for e.g., and it used to make these products because it has a wide range of material choices you can choose from, it is cost-effective and you can recycle the powder and re use it to form other things etc.
Rapid prototyping of products and components
FDM
FDM Rapid Prototyping
FDM rapid prototyping is a process that is commonly used to produce prototype items out of layers of ABS-M30 thermoplastic. Also the reason why this process would be used since of the advantage it has and they are that when it comes to making a prototype by using FDM it can be due to the speed, properties, low cost and can be tested etc.
Applications
Wall socket
Gears
LS
Selective Laser Sintering
Selective laser sintering or SLS is a process which is commonly used for rapid-prototyping and consists of using CAD and has the ability to convert Complex geometries in a rapid amount of time. The reason why it is used for rapid-prototyping is since the main reason it is quicker than FDM and SLA and another reason why it is chosen is due to the design freedom, this means that their is no support structures needed etc.
Applications
Kitchen/Bathroom tap
Moulds and tooling

Direct Metal Laser Sintering
Direct metal laser sintering is a type of 3D printing which is used to create prototypes and mass production of metal parts. It commonly uses the materials : Aluminium, Titanium and Stainless steel etc., Also the use of this process is used due to the speed and accuracy meaning it can work at a fast pace and ensures an accurate part, and another reason it can be used is because of its durability.
Applications
Golf ball mould
Selective Laser Sintering
Selective laser sintering is an additive manufacturing process when a laser is used to sinter a type of powdered material and would commonly be nylon or polyamide etc. The use of this process is to make prototypes and can be used to produce low-volume production parts etc., the reason why this process is used since it allows parts to have good mechanical properties and has the ability to create parts from metals and non metals etc.
Applications
Automotive/Aerospace parts
Nuts and Bolts
FDM
Sheet Metal Forming
Sheet metal forming is a type of metalworking that is used to make engine components and airframes in low-volume manufacturing applications. It is most commonly used in the aerospace sector. Many industries utilise FDM for sheet metal forming because it offers numerous benefits, including reduced lead times and costs, design freedom, and ergonomic aspects, all of which may help businesses develop and grow.
Applications
Metal parts
Blow Moulding
Blow moulding is a manufacturing process that consists of making hollow parts such as bottles or containers etc. This is normally done with materials such as: polystyrene, polycarbonate and resins such as polyethylene. Also the process is used since it is cost-effective, works at high-speeds and can withstand hundreds of cycles showing its durability
Applications
Containers
Water bottles
Digital manufacturing
Powder bed fusion
Titanium air mixer
Pump
Wire deposition
Distorted wall
Landing gear
When it comes to Powder bed fusion, these products are made to ensure that they are made to a high quality standard and they are made with such accuracy, lets say if they weren't accurate it could cause a major problem for e.g., and Wire deposition is used for the products below since it is a rapid manufacturing process and is loved by the big companies since it saves their time and it is preferred over other AM Processes
Personalised fabrication
FDM
Controller casing
Wheel
Propeller
Jig
Helmet
FDM is used for these products since these products tend to be made out of plastics and the reason why FDM is used is due to the availability of raw materials, the simplicity of it and the cost of the whole machine would be cheap other than SLS and Binder jetting etc. Also when talking about business, many of them use FDM cause of the reasons which are mentioned above and is used for creating prototypes.
