Vertebral Column - Coggle Diagram
Vertebral Column
Sacrum
-
-
Contains ridges of tubercles formed by the spinous process of fused bones --> called median sacral crest
Contains posterior sacral foramina, which are rows that create openings for nerves and blood vessels
Wedged between hip bones of pelvis, joins them at auricular surfaces by fibrocartilage of sacroiliac joints
-
-
Overall size of pelvis can be determined by the finding the upper anterior margin termed the sacral promontory
-
Cervical Vertebrae
-
-
-
-
-
Contain two vertebrae of interest --> 1. Atlas = supports the cranial cavity and articulate occipital condyles 2. Axis = lies on ring of atlas and contains "dens", which atlas pivots around to move head
-
-
Thoracic Vertebrae
-
-
-
Each vertebrae contain long, pointy spinous process
-
Following the 3rd thoracic vertebrae, each subsequent vertebrae begins to increase in size
-
Lumbar Vertebrae
-
-
-
Short, thick spinous processes more horizontal/project posteriorly
