Our Carbon Footprint - Coggle Diagram
Our Carbon Footprint
Energy usage
13 million metric tons of Methane comes from fracking wells, and pipelines. Majority of which ends up in the sea killing wildlife.
What can our government do to prevent these leakages and what can we do on our end to reduce the amount of energy needed from these suppliers?
In 2020, 34.7% of energy is from Petroleum and 34.0% is used from Natural gases which contribute to greenhouse gases
-
Waste production
Through all 194 countries, 2.3 billion tons of solid waste is produced annually and only 16% of it is recycled. 46% is disposed of in an unsustainable way that harms the environment especially the sea.
The average American produces 1,704 pounds of garbage which is 3 times more than the global average.
what could the normal person do to reduce the amount of waste produced and can we change the way we handle that waste to improve our carbon footprint?
-
Water usage
Dishwasher, handwashing dishes
The average dishwasher uses 6-16 gallons and dishwashing by hand uses 9-27 gallons. Average of 1.5-2 gallons of water per min by hand. When using this much water, there is an increase in electricity usage which increases our carbon footprint
Laundry
Newer laundry machines use 25 gallons per load and older models use almost 40 gallons. When using older model laundry machines, there is a dramatic increase of electric required then newer models which not only increases peoples electricity bills, but their carbon footprint.
If the government forces companies to make their products cheaper, will people start buying them, and will it reduce our carbon footprint dramatically?
-
Food
-
How would changing all our diets affect the production of food and will it change the amount of land used and if that land is changed, will we use it to plant forests?
Food accounts about 26% of the worlds global greenhouse gas emissions in which beef plays a big role.
-
Forms of travel
Cars, motorcycles, buses, and taxis contribute 74% of emissions caused by transportation.
If our form of travel were to switch from gasoline to electric, how would that affect our carbon footprint and will the production of those vehicles be clean for our environment?
Transportation account for 24% of total global CO2 emissions which is equivalent to 8 billion tons of CO2 emitted.
