Skeletal-Merari Hernandez Per:5
Joints
Synovial Joint-diarthrotic. Most joints in skeletal system is synovial joints
Saddle Joint
the joint between the trapezieum and the metacarpal thumb
Pivot Joint
joint between the dens of the axis and atlas
Hinge Joint
the elbow and joints phalanges
Plane Joint
Wrist/ankle.
Condylar Joint
joints between metacarpals and phalanges
Ballad Socket Joint
Consists of a bone with globular egg shaped head
Cartiaginas Joints-connected by the hyaline/fibrocartilage
Fibrous Joints-most immovable such as sutures of skull
Movements
Plane
Allows sliding/twisting movement
Hinge
Allows movement in 1 plane
Ball and Socket
Allows widest range of motion
Pivot
Allows rotation
Condylar
Permits back/ forth, side/side movement
Saddle
Permits a variety of movement
Bone Fracture Repiar
Formation of bone from connective tissue is called ossification
Types of Bones
Short-almost equal in length and width
Ex:bones of wrist,ankle
Long-long with expanded ends
Ex: arm,leg
Flat-plate like shape with broad surface
Ex:ribs,scapula,flattened skull bones
Irregular-Varied shape
Ex:vertebrae,some facial bones
Sesamoid(round bones)- small,nodular bones
Ex:Patella
Anatomy of long bone-Expand ends of bones that form joints with adgantent bones are called epiphases
Articular cartilage-covers the epiphyes
Shaft of the bone is diaphysis
Persospstem-tough layer of dense CT
Medullary Cavity- hollow chamber in the diaphysis
Endosteum-thin layers of cell lined in medullary units
Bone Marrow-special CT in medullery
Bony Process-provide attachment sites for tendons/ligaments/openings/grooves for blood vessels and nerves for and depressions for articulation
Compact Bone- tightly packed tissues
Spongy Bone- consists of many branches bony plate called trabecule
Female Skeleton-usually more smoother
Male Skeleton- thicker, rougher and appears more bumpy.
Bone Remodeling
Osteoclasts resorb and osteoblasts deposit bone throughout life, in a process called
Disorders-osteoporosis, rickets, osteomalacia, osteogenesis imperfecta, marble bone disease (osteopetrosis), Paget disease of bone, and fibrous dysplasia
