Organisms
cells
Facts
-
The main purpose of a cell is to organize. Cells hold a variety of pieces and each cell has a different set of functions.
-
Although there are different types of cells, most cells have the same components. A cell consists of a nucleus and cytoplasm which is contained within the cell membrane
Types of cells

Plant cells
Plant cells are very small and can only be seen using a microscope. A plant cell can be between 0.01 and 0.1 millimeters in size.
-
They help balance the amount of carbon dioxide being absorbed and the water lost through evaporation

Tissues
Facts
-
-
There are four main tissue types in the body: epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous. Each is designed for specific functions.
Types of tissues
-
Epithelial tissues
Epithelial tissue covers the outside of the body and lines organs, vessels. They form the covering of all body surfaces
Some of their functions include protection, secretion, absorption, excretion, filtration, diffusion, and sensory reception.
The cells in epithelial tissue are very closely packed together and joined with little space between them.
-
Muscle tissues
-
Muscle tissue is also found inside of the heart, digestive organs, and blood vessels. In these organs, muscles serve to move substances throughout the body
They are very important because they allow a person to move their body and enable the internal organs to function.
Nervous tissues
Nervous tissue is found in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. It is responsible for coordinating and controlling many body activities.
It consists of dendrites, ends of the cell body, axons, and nerves.
-
Although the nervous system is very complex, there are only two main types of cells in nerve tissue which are neuron and neuroglia.
