Vernacular Act- passed in 1878 in an effort to silence those who were critical of the government and also to confiscate assets of those newspapers which published anything 'objectionable'
Ilbert Bill- ABOUT to be passed in 1883 which provided trial of brits and europeans by indians and also to seek equality between the british and the indian judges
HOWEVER white opposition forced the government to withdraw the bill, Indians were enraged
