types of sentences
A fine
a set amount of money that someone is ordered to pay in order to repay their crimes. commonly given in less serious cases
A discharge
if someone if found guilty of a minor crime, they may be discharged and so not punished
suspended sentence
if this is their first crime, they wont be charged unless they re-offend
A community sentence
mainly entails doing unpaid work for a set amount of hours within the community that they offended in, in order to 'repay" their crime
restorative justice
allows the offender to continue living in their home and under normal circumstance, but with a few restrictions E.G an ankle tracker
prison sentence
the offender in placed in jail for a given amount of time in order to protect society from them, as well as for punishment

laws a a system of rules within a particular country or state, that regulates the actions of its populace and defines a clear way of governance. breaking these laws will commonly result in punishment's.
