        osmosis: movement of water particles from a higher concentrated area to a low concentrated area. There are three types of environment: hypertonic, isotonic, and hypotonic. Hypotonic means that there is a higher concentration of solute in the cell, so water diffuses in, the cell expands, Isotonic means that the concentration of solute is the same inside and outside the cell, so there is an equal exchange. Hypertonic means that the concentration of solute is higher outside the cell, therefore, water diffuses out, the cell shrinks.
        
        Diffusion: The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. One example is the alveoli, where oxygen diffuses into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide diffuses out to the alveoli.
