No pump: Smooth muscle reacts to the pulsing of nearby arteries by squeezing to get things started and then the squeezing of skeletal muscle, which normally contract throughout the day exert external pressure to keep the lymph moving
To keep it from sliding backwards, the lymphatic vessels have valves
Three major roles
- Helps large molecules enter the blood E.g. Hormones, lipids
