Learning Activities
- As a whole class, students will watch the YouTube video 'Respectful Relationships'. In small groups of students choice, discuss the meaning of respectful relationships that they have experienced and what is important in a respectful relationship. After students have had a deep discussion, students are to contribute a word which they believe works with respectful relationships or what is needed for a respectful relationship.
- Students will work in pairs and think of ways they would confidently combat racism. ICT's will be integrated, the pair will be encouraged to use a device and use the Racism: No Way website to come up with ideas to combat racism with the classroom and outside the classroom.
- Students will use a device independently and use the website Coggle to create a mind map with the words 'building positive relationships by combatting racism and celebrating multiculturalism'. Students are to create a mind map of the effects of racism and how to combat it, the importance of multiculturalism, their own experiences are important and how these impact positive relationships within and out of the classroom.
- All students will be given a hand out of Plutchik's wheel of emotion. On the interactive whiteboard, there will be different types of scenarios in relation to experiencing racism, multiculturalism and relationships. Using the wheel of emotion students are to write the emotions they may feel if they were in the scenario. Students are invited to have contribution in discussion if they have experienced anything relating to the scenarios before.
