Communication and Self

Self fulfilling prophecies - when a persons expectations of an event, and their behavior based on those expectations, make the outcome more likely to occur; 2 types of these (76)
(personal) When I get into the mindset of, "I'm just here to have fun", I always end up having fun.
Self imposed prophecies
Starting the day off saying, "I'm going to have a bad day", makes the day more likely to be bad
Expectation based prophecies - people reaching expectations because another person expressed that they expected them to have the potential to reach that expectation.
example: a teacher telling a student 1 that she has high expectations for them makes them more probable to reach that expectation than student 2 who wasn't told anything
Hinting - instead of saying something directly, hinting to save the receiver from embarrassment (97)
(personal) I did this a lot during my internship. In my experience in the engineering workplace, people have egos that don't want to be brought down. When finding a mistake that someone made, instead of directly saying that they are wrong, I would ask them how they got the outcome that they got. After they find their own mistake, I would give them a genuine compliment on how they were "very smart/intelligent" to catch a mistake like that
Triple win - saves face, solves a mistake, and the person likes you better
Face saving hint - Instead of telling a professor that they got the wrong answer directly, you can say something along the lines of, "I got a different answer", or "Is the right answer supposed to be (x)?"
