- - - - Clinical signs
        
        Can begin at 6-8 weeks of age (nursery) and into the grower phase (~20 wks). Low morbitity but high case fatality. VARIABLE clinical signs: poor growth, weight loss, anemia, pallor, wasting, emaciation, dyspnea, lymphadenomegaly, jaundice (terminal), diarrhea (growers), splenomegaly, chronic interstitial nephritis.
    - - Clinical signs
        
        8-18 week old pigs (late nursery and growers). Immune-mediated vasculitis? Red/purple lesions on hindquarters, perineum, flank. Large kidneys with white spots and hemorrhage in parenchyma. Death usually due to secondary infections. Can cause peracute death - unknown.
- - - - Reduce quantity of substrates for E. coli proliferation (need highly digestible feed as poorly digested/absorbed CHO and excess protein encourage proliferation). Acidify GI pH (reduce excessive calcium, add acidifiers). Add fibre to diet (affects growth rate though). Medication (zinc oxide to control diarrhea).
    - - Acidify water (citric acid). Medication (careful with resistance problems): apramycin or neomycin
    - - Avoid chilling, ensure clean floors, clean water lines/nipples with chlorine
