adaptations of mangroves
salt excreting leaves
plants cannot survive with salt water, thus these leaves will excrete concentrated salt water onto the surface of the leaf. the water will then be evaporated leaving salt crystals on the leaf surface. the salt crystals will later be blown away by wind or be washed away by water

aerial roots
due the waterlogged and oxygen-poor soil at the coast, mangroves have aerial roots so they can take in oxygen directly from the surroundings during low tide. these roots also help to anchor mangrove trees in the soft and unstable soil, which helps the seedlings take root and prevents mangrive trees from being washed away

prop roots
these roots grow out from the trunk and branches of trees. it gives the tree more support as it has a broader base and helps the tree breathe
